VASCULAR SURGERY OVERVIEW
Vascular surgery is a surgical specialty where diseases of the vascular system (arteries and veins) are managed either through medical therapy or through surgical intervention. Vascular surgeons are trained in the diagnosis and management of diseases involving all parts of the vascular system except of the heart and brain. A few of the diseases treated by vascular surgeons includes ischemia, aneurysm, extracranial cerebrovascular (carotid) disease, and venous disease (including varicose veins).
THE STAGES OF VENOUS DISEASE
Spider Veins
Cosmetic Issue
Spider Veins are a cosmetic condition that are treated with Sclerotherapy (spider vein injections). Each individual case will be evaluated by a specialist, and treatment will be performed by one of our certified nurses. An ultrasound is not required. Spider veins will not harm you if left untreated and this is not a medically necessary procedure. Non-surgical.
Varicose Veins
Bulging Veins
Bulging Varicose veins are a medical problem. When veins bulge it means they are under pressure and there is something going on inside of the leg. An ultrasound is necessary and will be done in our accredited facility. Strict protocol will be followed during the Doppler Ultrasound examination to identify troubled veins and create a treatment plan.

VARICOSE VEINS & TREATMENTS
Varicose Veins are not necessarily a cosmetic issue. Varicose Veins are caused when blood is allowed to pool in the veins of the leg because of faulty vein valves. This causes pressure in the leg and can result in pain, swelling, and skin changes/ulcers in the legs. The Vein Clinic has been established to aid patients with varicose veins with various treatment options. The Vein Clinic of Middle Tennessee Surgical Specialists ™ offers advanced procedures as an alternative to traditional vein stripping in treatment of saphenous vein reflux. Our procedures are in-office, minimally invasive, covered by most insurance and has a short recovery time. For more information please contact our office.
Advanced procedures we offer:
VenaSeal™ Closure System Adhesive Ablation
Varithena Non Compounded Foam Sclerosant
ClosureFast™ Radiofrequency Ablation of Saphenous Vein
Radiofrequency Ablation of Refluxing Perforators
Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy
